Is World Peace Achievable?

I want to open my blog post today with one simple question, is world peace really achievable as some of our world leaders claim? You see, never has there been such a concerted, global effort to bring about peace at any cost such as there is today. Everywhere you turn there is some kind of ‘world peace’ keeping effort. For example: peace summits of all sorts are taking place, in many churches there are pastors claiming we can arrive at world peace, there are websites taking stands for it and many commercials and world leaders pushing for it. Just Google the word ‘world peace’ and you’ll see what I mean. People are itching for it. We desire it, we want it, and we long for it. While it is a good to desire such peace, is such a peace really achievable?

“For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” 1 Thess. 5:3

‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.” Jeremiah 6:14

As you probably already know, we are never going to arrive there! The Bible says that we are all born into sin and that we all fall short of the glory of God. We are a people with a sin nature. We are not naturally good as evolutionist claim. I mean, consider one of the first words you learned as a child, and if you are anything like me, it was probably the word “no.” This goes to show where our true nature lies and that is a sinful one. You see, we are never going to acquire that world peace that some claim we can have, as long as, our sin nature exists on this planet. Not only that but, as long as Satan is ruler of this world, there will never be such peace. After all, do you think Satan really wants ‘world peace?’ I would assume not. For Satan himself is a liar and his end goal is destruction of the soul. So despite  any of our human efforts for world peace, it will never happen, and it will always end in utter failure. So if anyone says he can offer you world peace, please know that this is the enemy in disguise.

Even though such ‘world peace’ is not achievable. People still long for it and sadly are looking for it in all the wrong places. People look to others, to government, to material things, to drugs, to self fulfillment, to lustful desires, gambling, pride, and more. We are seeking after utopia ideas like a ‘blissful’ universe, a ‘blissful’ state, a ‘blissful’ perfected people.  And friends, we won’t have such things until the day God himself sets up His kingdom on this planet and ushers in the New Jerusalem. And OH what a day that will be! So please do not lose heart. For there is hope for world peace, just not while Satan is ruler of this world. But you don’t have to take my word for it….

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”  Rev. 21:1-4

Wow! Now that sounds like world peace to me. God dwelling with us, no more sorrow, no more crying, no more death! That is world peace at its purest!! And this peace will be for all those who call Jesus Lord and believe in him. We will inherent this kingdom with God and I can’t wait for the day!

If you do not know the Lord as your savior please email me, as I would love to talk with you about receiving Jesus as your Lord.

Love you all!

  1. Back in the late 70s there was a meeting in the local Anglican cathedral. It was organised by “The Campaign for World Peace”, or something equally grandiose. The cathedral lent weight to the meeting which, following some good advertising, was very well attended. Other local churches gave support of course.
Because he couldn’t make it, I was asked by the pastor of the fellowship I attended to go and find out what it was all about.
It was, to put it mildly, totally diabolical, a clever misuse of politics and religion to woo foolish people. It was clearly another Marxist attempt to use the churches to undermine the nation’s military resolve (UK).
Interestingly as a lesson, even had I not understood the misuse of scripture, history, or politics, my main witness was in my spirit which grieved greatly. We need to listen to our spirit far more that we do!

A follow up meeting was scheduled a month later in another large church at the next town.

Although a relatively inexperienced believer, I did a little scriptural research and easily took their false theology to pieces. A friend typed it out for me, no PCs in those days, and we photocopied hundreds of sheets. Like the meeting, it was entitled The Campaign for World Peace.
A group of us went early and stood at the door to hand out the leaflets which everyone thanked us for. We then joined the crowd inside.
The meeting started and immediately the main “peace” speaker, red in the face and seething with anger, holding up one of our sheets, raged against us with, “I am so angry that I could spit, it has come to my attention that someone has been handing out leaflets at the door which have nothing whatsoever to do with us. If I could find out who…….etc”
He was completely out of control.

They eventually got the meeting going with similar lies as the previous time, but the wind had been knocked out of their sails. Then came question time and they just got madder and madder at our group in the middle who asked revealing questions.

It was a farce, the so called men of peace were so clearly full of anger, that it made there message a little shallow. I think it was probably not a good evening for them.
It was a great lesson for me though in standing up for the truth.

    • Oh wow!! What a thing to have to go through! And yes I agree! I think those ‘men of peace’ were ‘men of anger’ that day. That totally shot their message. LOL. Thank you for sharing that with me. Its amazing to here others stories of things that have happened. What a blessing it must have been to stand up for truth! Thats awesome!!

  2. Well said! Often I struggle with the concept of world peace too. Not a bad thing to aim for I guess, but how wonderful that Jesus will bring it as only He can, defeating Satan’s rule once and for all.
    A great perspective, thanks 🙂
