God is not our Puppet Master

HUMAN PUPPETI am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.” Isaiah 45:6-7

Often times we question the source of our difficulties, blaming the devil or other people. But the truth is, God is in control of everything that pertains to us, he established our steps.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

Now, does that mean that God is a universal puppet master controlling our every move? No! That is a heinous representation of our Lord and though many people are taught growing up that God manipulates their every move, that is not exactly true.

God will bring good out of any crappy situation that we find ourselves in, but he is not the author of that crap. Rather he is a powerful God, who is not controlling, but a God who allows us to control our own destinies. He allows us to make decisions and choose paths for ourselves. He may guides us in the direction he wishes, but the choice is ultimately up to you and weather you choose that path or not. God does not micromanage his people to death. He loves us enough not to do such things, but he does establish and guide us in the right direction. We are not robots, we are human beings.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will guide you with my eye.” Psalm 23:8

When bad things happen to us God does, nevertheless, turn them around for good and make blessing and grace out of any situation we find ourselves in. Romans 8:28 tells us this, “All things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

God has nothing but good intentions for his people. We may not always understand why things happen or why we are in the circumstances that surround us, but he does promise to work them out for His glory.

I ask you today to allow God to direct your path even now. I know life is no walk in the park, but I ask you to stand firm in God’s direction. Allow Him to guide your every step and when he nudges you in a certain direction, listen to his call because remember, he is not our puppet master, he is our guider!

  1. It’s so liberating to know that God is sovereign and we are not in control. Imagine? Being masters of our own destinies? Yikes! I can barely navigate myself through rush hour traffic, never mind my eternal destination. Thank God for His absolute control over my life…thank God.

  2. We are slaves. We were bought with a price. We as Christians are slaves of Christ, only to live for His will. Those who are not saved are destined to fulfill their own purpose to bring Him glory. All for His glory…nothing for me. is that hard to understand? For him who want to be in control it’s the worst news in the universe.
