What is my Passion and the Purpose for this Blog?

One of my favorite Books of the Bible is the book of Jude. This one Chapter Epistle contains a very powerful message to believers not only living in Jude’s day, but very applicable to believers today. When Jude set out to write the book, he had every intention to write to believers about Salvation which is a very good thing. However…..when he picked up his pen to write, He instead found himself drawn by the Holy Spirit to go in a completely opposite direction, from what he intended. Check it out for yourself…

Jude 1:3 “Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints..”

You see, rather than focusing on the riches of salvation, God’s blessing, and some of the positive things, which are very good things and should be talked about. He instead found himself compelled to “contend earnestly for the faith.” The Greek verb used for the word “contend earnestly” in this particular passage is “e/pago/niza/mai.” Which literally means‘to contend about a something as a combatant – as a fighter.

Here Jude is literally describing an intense difficult, long drawn out fight over truth.He was telling his readers to ‘wage a mighty battle over the truth.’ Now, he is not talking about a war with weapons, a guns. He’s talking about a spiritual battle (as our battle is not with flesh and blood but against the principalities of this world). He considered this a state of spiritual emergency for the church, and he was calling them to actively respond in defense of the gospel.

So my question is why would he want to do that? What would cause someone to have such a sense of urgency? Well, the answer is found in verse 4…

“I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their way into your churches, saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives….for they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” Jude 1:4

Jude was facing a problem in his day that needed addressed. False doctrine and false teachings were creeping in and becoming a threat to the security and the foundations of the church. Many people on the fence were led astray. Does this at all sound familiar?

Battles over the truth were raging in Jude’s day, and it’s no different in our culture today. Truth today is under serious attack.That’s why we have to “wage a might truth war” in our generation. This is also why God has led me to compose this blog. To get the truth of our Lord and Savior out to an unbelieving generation.

“…Friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them…” Jude 1:20-23

My life verse…

Hebrews 11:6– “But without faith it is Impossible to please God, for he who comes to God Must believe that He is!”

  3. Amen! I love what you said here. Truth must be redeemed in this day and age that is fueled with so many lies that permeate in the fabric of a bombarded and distracted society. God bless you. I’ve read Jude before but not with that type of revelation. Thank you for sharing that here with us.

  4. Thanks for visiting my site. It is interesting you quote from Jude. It is one of those key books to help us get back on track or gauge progress. The early believers who contended earnestly for the faith were much unlike so many who have been taught that walking with the Lord is a walk in the park. It can be and should be victorious, but we are at war. Keep up the good work.

  5. I did enjoy that you seem to have a love of life, but I have to wonder what it is that drives you to ignore the reality of the world you live in? I have often wondered why some people ignore what is in front of them in preference for delusion and the loss of current reality. I was a deeply religious person until my grandfather helped me to see that I was suffering from a very serious malady. It was difficult at first to accept that Christ was only mythical, but when I did and became truly atheist I found myself losing my hate of others, the expectation for them to be like me, and my shallow thinking that was at best exclusionary. Now I am free to enjoy the earth as it is, to follow reality, and comprehend truth. A few years after dropping the myths I was able to develop real self-esteem, and I found myself actually liking nearly everyone, unafraid of showing that i respected the vast majority of people, and without fear to push me down I was able to feel the morality the atheists spoke of. It is real, and without the fears of that binding myth, I am a far more moral person, open and able to assist others because I want to , not because someone has a sword at my throat. I can now enjoy the earth as I know that heaven is nothing more than a false promise.

    I only wish i had joined the reality sooner. Religion is not love, it is hate, and simply my saying this will cause thousands to boil inside and think evil thoughts against me. Many will hate mane and many will feel the urge to kill me. As an atheist, I do not have that hate, and I am not suspicious of others. Finally I am real and I can accept others openly without that feeling that I must demand they follow a very divisive law that pushes many apart. I sincerely hope Christians soon realize that the demands of that myth are what brings hate into the world, not love, and certainly not peace.

    Peace to you all, and I wish that the hate filled Christians could only feel the love for me that I can so easily feel for others–including them. I feel sad that you find this so offensive that you will remove it. While I can consider the words of religion and have read the old and new testament cover to cover twice each, the religious cannot consider for one moment that they might be living an ancient myth that is not only out of place in a modern world, it is frighteningly dangerous. Just the thought of America attempting to prohibit the study of science with demands that children’s education advance no further than the bronze age scares me deeply.

    Many would have America a country of only Christians, making atheism and any other consideration but Christianity illegal. While Christians think that a good thing, consider that it is exactly what al Qaeda did.

    I have never met a demanding, angry atheist, but I have met hundreds of angry, hate filled demanding Christians, some of which threatened my life because I was a pleasant and happy atheist. Christians claim their religion is of peace and love, but isn’t it more of restriction and demand, where hoards of people with signs spit hate and threats at anyone that simply wants an opportunity to be as they are, not as you demand, while not disturbing you in any manner other than not following in your self delusion?

    • Hi I’m sorry it took me a few days to respond, as I have been out of town all weekend. 🙂

      On another note, I want you to know that I feel no hate or anger towards you. In fact I’m honored at the opportunity to here the situations going on in your heart. So thank you for sharing that with me. I would also like to say that you are right, any person who calls themselves a Christian and is full of hate and anger towards others, is really not a Christian at all. For God tells us in the Bible not to hate anyone and that the true mark of a real Christian is the love they have for others. God says, ‘If you love me, you will love others.’ He also says to ‘love your enemies, love those who persecute you.’ Never once did he say to be angry at people who don’t believe in him or hate people who disagree with you.

      If you do not see love in those who call themselves Christians, then they are a liar and aren’t real Christians. And I sincerely want to apologize to you for anyone who has done that to you under the name of Christianity and under the Name of the God Almighty. As that is not the God I serve.

      I want to also tell you that I feel hate for no one and I love others. I have lots of joy and peace and because of Gods gracious gifts I am fulfilled and it is only by God that I am able to do these things. Now am I perfect?… I wish! LOL. But unfortunately I do make mistakes. I am not better than you, and I do not put myself above anyone. God loves us all and His will is only that we come to Him. I have been healed by God and seen miracles. So I know God is real.

      I also wanted to agree with you about your statement on religions. You said religion is not love, its hate. And I agree. There are many religions out there who claim to love God yet they murder, kill, judge others who are not like them, make you dress a certain way, put a list of laws on you to obey, say you can only worship God this way or that way, make you say so many hail Mary’s, and much more. But that is just religion, and not the God I serve. As I do not consider myself ‘religious’, rather, I consider myself a follower of the Jesus. For many of the religions of today have sadly become corrupted.

      As a follower of Christ, I’d have to also agree with the Bible and say that Jesus never forced anyone to believe in him. It was always optional. So in agreement with him, I do not believe Christianity should be the only religion in America. Any true follower of Christ would have to agree with that. You see, God never forced himself on anyone, nor should we force people to believe in Him. We know there is only One True God, we do not deny that, but everyone has the freedom to choose whether to accept that or deny it. Either way, we are not judge.

      With that said, I’m curious as to what religion or church you were apart of in the past? I would love to know! 🙂 And please respond back, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

      Hope you have a very wonderful week.

      • There is only one Truth Lisa, the Holy Spirit does not say one thing to one person and something differant to another when they contradict. God never tells us to agree to disagree, this only ends in division and God is a God of Unity, we are to take our differences to Him, meaning resolve them with His Truth and He will show us who is in error. It was never His will that there be so many Denominations, with differant beliefs, we are to have the same mind and focus and we will if we have the mind of Christ. We are also to obey God’s guidelines and ask for His wisdom so we can understand His perfect will for us. 1Corinthins2:1-16 (9-16)

        Yes Elissa you are very right, we are to Love even our enemies and do good to them but we are not to condone the evil they do and this is the same with those who sin in the Church, it is not Love not to warn them that they are in danger but we do so in Love for Love. Paul told us to aim for Perfection in Love now not when we die and Love does not sin and when we are Born again, we walk as Jesus walked, which was without sin. When we reject Scripture to fit into our own understanding or others, we are showing foolishness.

        1 John 3:9 No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.

        1 John 5:18-20 We know that no one who is Born of God sins; but He who was Born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

  6. Hi, I would like to thank you for following my blog. While I choose not to follow any particular religion, I have to admire those who find solace and peace in theirs. I also admire those whose beliefs are so strong that they want to guide others as matter of course, not force. Unlike the man who doused Christianity because of perhaps his own disappointments, I choose to offer respect and to be educated by your posts. I wish you well in your obvious passions.
    Lesly

  7. To post a comment on your earlier comment & reply to Dr. John M. Cook…he asks…”what it is that drives you to ignore the reality of the world you live in?” I love your answer, and I would add that when someone meets the Almighty God, is filled completely with the glorious, powerful Holy Spirit, and has Jesus actively living in their heart…this is more “real” to us than the reality of this world!!

    Which is why he “enjoyed that you seem to have a love of life!” God’s abundant love to you then overflows onto others!!

  9. Thank you Lisa for joining up with us, I was not advised that you had but I noticed an increase in my followers, we are having Blog problems. I also joined up with you, I hope you received notification. I was very encouraged as I read your heart focus and conviction and I also listened to your message about being the Bride of Christ, it was very uplifting and I could indeed appreciate your Joy with your new sons. I have a post about our value to God, I received it a few years ago, I will leave a link for you, it’s on my Kingdom’s Garden Blog, I hope you will be blessed by it but you may have heard it before.

    Blog post – http://alifeofhopeandjoy.wordpress.com:80/2011/10/23/how-god-views-us-2/

    Like you Lisa, I very much believe in sharing God’s Truth regardless of the response, I have Ministered to Cult members, XCult members and Atheists and also deceived and disobedient Christians, one thing they all have in common is they reject the Scriptures and depend on their own understanding or others but since this was my story too, I have compassion for them but their abuse can still hurt. Jesus also hurt, He was known as a man of sorrows acquainted with grief, not as Clappy Happy as often taught, He was real.

    Thank you again – Christian Love from both of us – Anne

    • Thank you and I also enjoyed your blog very much. It was very inspiring and I can see the love you have for the Lord. Today that is a rare quality. I look forward to reading future posts from you and continuing to see how God works in your life. Thank you again for taking time to read my blog.

      • Thank you Lisa it was a Joy, it’s hard to Love when you have never felt Loved, many do not understand how much God Loves them, they have been taught to be frightened of Him but sugar coated of course and hurt people hurt people and themselves. We Love God because He first Loved us but we need to know just how much He does Love us, sadly many don’t, we need to ask and receive His wisdom and also His Love, poured out and overflowing in our hearts so we can give it freely to others.

        Thank you again for your words of encouragement, may you continue to be greatly blessed.

        Christian Love Anne

  10. I read your “Letter to a Mother Considering Abortion” and commend your stand, I would like to share with you my story, a sad but needed one, how I wish that I had someone to turn to in those days, to stand by me in Love and that I had not been deceived by false teaching as a young Teenager. I know I’m forgiven and not condemned for my great sin , Jesus Christ did not come to save those who think they are righteous in the flesh but so much suffering could have been prevented if someone had shared with me as you have done with others… Thank you .

    • God is soo good and His mercy endures forever! We have all done crazy things in our past, but luckly we have a God who is much greater than that and who forgets our sins forever. It is only us who remembers them. 🙂 May God bless you my sister in Christ.

      • I’m enjoying our conversation thanks for letting me share, if you check the link below you will see I agree with you 100% God does not keep a record of wrongs but I also know that we are never to take lightly the things we did to hurt God, others and ourselves, we are to come to True heart repentance, yes we no longer have the shame or do we allow Satan to use our sins to condemn us but we don’t laugh about them either. King David, Peter, Paul and others repented from the heart and grieved for the evil they had done, Paul said he was not worst of sinners, I can claim this too, we all can, we have all fallen short of the glory of God and if we have broken one Commandment we have broken them all but thankfully in Christ Jesus we have been forgiven and set free and our remembrance is only sadness but it does keep us humble, who are we to judge others critically.

        Blog Post – http://freedomborn.wordpress.com/2012/01/18/judgment-day/

        You may find this hard to believe, but I was sharing with a woman who said she believed in God ? and had a Laughing Ministry, she believes and teaches that regardless of the evil we have done we should laugh about it, she even shared this with our Australian Government Politicians, but even worse, she was telling me that a Paedophile was sharing on T.V that he was only giving the little girls pleasure and she agreed with him and was upset others didn’t understand. Believe me as a molested Child I find no pleasure in having had my innocence stolen.

        By the way the link I gave you on my Abortion had on it to respond but I removed it, if this does not come from the heart it is pointless but you could say it is better then being ignored which does not show Love but self interest.

        Christian Love Anne.

  11. Wow, it saddens my heart to know there is a women out there teaching such things. Oh Lord open her eyes.

    And thank you again for your sweet responce. I agree 100%. There are far too many people in this world making light of their sins, and that breaks my heart as well. Love you my sister in Christ.

  12. Hello Lisa! I look forward to really diving into your blog. Also, thank you for following my blog at Faith1st Ministry. I hope it has and will continue to be a major blessing in your life. May God richly bless you as you continue to write and blog. Please continue with us on this journey and remember to have Faith 1st. — Sebastian

  13. Hi Lisa! Thank you for ‘liking’ my poetry / prayers. It’s always nice to know they resonate with someone, on some level. Moreover, it led me to your excellent blog! 🙂 Also, speaking of resonance, you mentioned “Truth today is under serious attack.”, This has been on my mind night and day, lately. In an age of literacy, this is especially troubling. Something to definitely pray about. Shalom!

  15. I replied to your comment on my blog site, but wanted to come on over and see what you’re all about. Looks like you’re all about God and family! You have a beautiful family and a gift for writing. I don’t follow blogs through WP, but through Google Reader. I’m adding you to my list there and will be following along, though it won’t show here. I hope that makes sense.

    My husband was homeschooled along with his siblings–my MIL homeschooled for 25 years! We plan to homeschool whenever we have children.

    I’ve got a pizza in the oven, so must go now, but look forward to reading some of your older posts and new ones too. Thanks again for checking out my blog.

    • I have only homeschooled for about 6 years now and this year is my first year homeschooling all four children. LOL! Its a new experience, but I’m blessed I get the chance to do so. I Love it!! And thank you for adding me to your list! I’m blessed by it.

  16. You have an excellent blog here! My wife (of almost 18 years) and I are also “home schoolers”…and committed followers of Christ. I am looking forward to future posts and exploring your blog a bit more. Thanks for your heart and effort!

  17. I love what you said here: “Battles over the truth were raging in Jude’s day, and it’s no different in our culture today. Truth today is under serious attack.That’s why we have to “wage a might truth war” in our generation. This is also why God has led me to compose this blog. I am so glad I found your blog!

    • We are waging a mighty war in our world today…and might I add one over what is truth and what is not. Sadly many people are believing the lies of this world. Thanks so much for stopping by and I can’t wait to check out your blog also.

  18. Hallo,

    It’s so beautiful to see the pictures with al your children. They look happy and their eyes are ful of joy!
    Great that you are doing.

  20. I’ve recently switched my food blog over to be self-hosted which I hope will make it more user-friendly in the future. As a result, if you were following Can’t Stay Out of the Kitchen via email, WordPress, or using RSS feeds through Google Reader or some other way, you are no longer subscribed. If you wish to continue receiving future posts from my blog you will need to re-subscribe. Sorry for the inconvenience, Teresa.

  21. Hey its nice what you are doing spreading the word through your blog and i also it has its own challenges and that’s why i applaud you. I pray that our lord and savior Jesus Christ gives you and your family the strength , grace,love and favor to keep on doing what you are doing. shalom

  22. I would value your prayers Lisa, my Mum phoned to let me know my Brother is in hospital fighting for his life, his kidneys are failing and our little furry friend Monty is also very sick and in a animal hospital, all in one day, I commented a few times but it is hard to focus, I should do a Post and ask for prayer but I’m feeling a bit lost, please pray I’m very worried, Alfred is not a Christian but I hope he remembers what we have shared with him over the years even if he rejected it at the time.

    My little Monty was so scared when we left him with the Vet, he is so gentle and loving, he just did not understand.

    Thanks, I have asked some others to pray too – Christian Love Anne

    • I’m so sorry Anne!! I will pray throughout the week and I will put him and Monty on some prayer chains. May you be ever so close to God during this tough time.
      Lord be with my sister and her family, bring her brother to Christ through this unfortunate situation, heal him Lord.
      And be with Monty, bring him peace and bring his mommy peace. Heal him to Lord. Amen!

      I’ll continue to pray through the week, Love you my sister in Christ. Hang in there!

  23. I’m so thankful that I found your blog. I’m looking forward to reading more.

    May the Lord richly bless your labor as you home school your children. We schooled ours at home – I haven’t been sorry a minute that we did.

    Praise Jesus!

    • Wow! Praise God!! It’s nice to know when others have completed homeschooling their children! It brings encouragement to those of us who are still in it! 🙂 Thanks for sharing that!

  24. JESUS (May he be blessed forever) IN CHRISTIANITY: The second member of the Triune God, the Son of the first part of the Triune God, and at the same time “fully” God in every respect.
    JESUS (May he be blessed forever) IN ISLAM: A very elect and highly esteemed messenger of God. No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe this.

    Al Quran: Surah/Chapter 005 – Al-Mâ’idah. Verse 75.
    The Messiah, son of Mary (Jesus), was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother (Mary) was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!

  25. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the follow of our blog. I never want to take it for granted.
    A Servant
    P.S. Next week I’ll be introducing a new blog idea and will be asking for input. I sure would like for you to chime in with what you think.

  26. I don’t know how I found your blog, but I am glad I did! I love to read it!!
    You have a wonderful family, Such a Blessing!
    It is always good to find a Sister in Jesus! There is so much sin & evil abounding in the world now, and the root cause is a world turning it’s back on Jesus, and the Truth He gives us in the Bible! Everything that is happening in the world today is because if people don’t stand for the Truth of Jesus, they will fall for what ever lie that the enemy throws out there! ( you were born that way) Even people that call themselves Christians are deceived by the Father of lies himself,- satan. I know I do not claim to be perfect or better than anyone else, because I am far from perfect, and I admit to being caught up in the lust of the flesh that the world is today. All I can do is beg for God’s Grace & Mercy, and His guidance to keep me in His Word & His Love!!!
    I believe that the world is getting worse, because The Body of Christ has failed to fully carry out Jesus’ Last Orders for His Church- The Great Commission! (Matthew 28:18-20) ((I am including myself in that also))…Sometimes I am very fearful of answering to God when He says to me- Why did you not do what I told you to do with My Son Jesus???)
    Nothing I can ever say or do will ever justify me in God’s eyes, so all I can do is stand on the promises of Jesus & His death & Resurrection for my sins, and beg for God’s Grace & Mercy!!!

    Anyway, I have been married to my wife for 25 years, by the Grace of God. Her name is Lisa also! We have 4 wonderful children together- 3 sons & 1 daughter, our youngest. We have not had an easy marriage, and I know for sure that it was God that kept us together (and brought us back together) through everything we have thrown at each other for all those years!!! She is now truly my beautiful Proverbs 31 Wife, and such a blessing to me!!!
    I really love my Calvary Chapel http://www.calvarychapelpearlharbor.com and the way they teach the whole word of God…Verse by Verse, Chapter by Chapter and Book by Book. You said you did go to a Calvary Chapel, Do you still go to one? If you & your Husband are ever on Oahu I would love to invite you to worship with us there anytime, and have a (non-alcoholic) drink with you both someday. I used to be an alcoholic, ( 2 Cor. 5:17) and I have been sober for almost 30 years now, by the Grace of God!!!

    • Praise God! What a testimony and I love Calvary Chapel, I was raised in one pretty much my whole life! God is good!!! Thanks for stopping by, and I was blessed by your testimony. And I’m encouraged to know there are others out there who are sold for Christ, because sadly many now-a-days are not. But I am praying for them. God bless ya friend! And welcome!

  27. Here is what I believe a true Christian MUST believe…
    These are the Non- Negotiable essentials of Christianity.
    What is your opinion on this, please?

    Dale’s Christian Statement of Faith

    I BELIEVE the Bible is the inspired, only infallible,
    authoritative, inerrant, all sufficient Word of God (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:21).

    I BELIEVE there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).

    I BELIEVE in the deity of Christ (John 10:33);
    His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:34-35);
    His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26);
    His miracles (John 2:11);
    His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4);
    His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19);
    His personal return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11-16).

    I BELIEVE in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature,
    and that all are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ,
    and that only by God’s grace, through faith alone, are we saved (John 3:16-19, 5:24, Romans 3:23, 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5, and Acts 4:12).

    I BELIEVE in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of the life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

    I BELIEVE in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28).

    I BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life (Romans 8:13-14, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, 5:18).

  28. Hello Lisa, I would like to point out hat some of the prophecies you mentioned as wrong are actually right. You can check out http://2theregime.com/ – there are whole bunch prophecies explained. For example the King of Terror could be Jiang Zemin, the president who ordered the death of over 1 milion of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The persecution against Falun Gong started in July 1999.
    Take a look and tell me what you think. Farewell.

    • I just checked it out. I think some of those predictions can be read into, and some are vague. While I’m not to familiar with Nostradamus and others, I can stand for the what I know about the Bible Prophecies, since I’ve read that cover to cover a few times, the prophecies shared on that sight are not taken in context. What I mean is there are things that must happen pre and post those events, such as the dragon from the sea, etc. If you read the verses before and after, it paints a completely different picture. This may be the same case for the others. But thanks for sharing it with me, I do find it interesting.

  29. Hi Lisa, I just wanted to let you know you’re doing a spectacular job. I’ve kind of stumbled upon your work recently and seen some of the jerky comments on youtube and I just wanted to thank you for what you are doing.
