Israel Fulfilles Prophecy

Imagine that you could view the entire lifespan of the planet Earth, from the day Adam and Eve left the garden, until our present time. In other words, you could see all the events laid out in time line form, right before your eyes. Then you were asked to take a highlighter and highlight every major battle and persecution by nation. For example, Jews would be yellow, Arabs would be blue, Greeks would be red, etc. After many years of highlighting, you would notice that the yellow, or the Jewish people, would cover more of your time line than any other nationality. One of the most shocking realities that we often fail to miss is that of the Jews. From almost the beginning of time, these people have been persecuted, in various battles, and have walked under the name of God since the time the covenant was made with Abraham. Because of their title as ‘God’s Chosen People’, they have become a target for others to persecute and attack.

“I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:7-8 NIV

Following the Roman conquest of 70 A.D., the Jewish people were scattered from one end of the earth to the other and no nation of Israel existed for nearly 2,000 years. Despite the fact, that the Jews did not have a country to inhabit, many nations continued to pursue methods of expulsion to outright genocide of the Jewish race. Persecutions included the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, Portuguese Inquisition, Bohdan Chmielnicki Cossack massacres in Ukraine and the Pogroms of Russia, as well as expulsions from Spain, Portugal, England, France, Germany and other countries in which the Jews had settled. Finally ending with the Holocaust, the mass murder of over six million Jews by Aldolf Hitler. However, despite these past attempts to, ‘rid the world of the Jewish people,’ Israel not only managed to maintain a remnant of its people, but they have since been brought back to the very country they have been scattered from, just as the Bible predicted. (Isa. 43:5-6)

According to Wikipedia, Jewish people make up only about 0.24% of the worlds current estimated  population. This small minority of people has been wreaking havoc around the world since it became a nation on May 14, 1948 (technically before that). This nation, born in a single day, as prophesied by Isaiah 2,500 years earlier, has miraculously managed to maintain their status as a nation, considering, their neighboring countries have sought their demise. Even the day following their declaration, six surrounding Arab nations sought to wipe Israel off the map, a country whose border is slightly smaller than that of the size of New Jersey. The Israelites were outnumbered sixty to one, meaning 650,000 Jews against 40,000,000 Arabs. These are numbers which should tell of a sure victory for that of the Arabs, however, what a shock it must have been that day when the Israelites prevailed and won the battle!

Now if the war in 1948 wasn’t enough, how about the miracle of the six-day war on June 1967? In this war, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq went up against Israel in battle. Once again outnumbered by countries far larger in size, Israel wins the war and gains back the Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza strip, the Golden Heights, the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem. What a time that must have been to see the power of God at work firsthand.

I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, And no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them, says the Lord your God.” Amos 9:14-15

The children of Israel have been planted once again in their land and are there to stay! Once God makes a promise, He intends to keep it. A covenant was made with the children of Israel thousands of years ago and even to this day we can see that covenant come to pass. WOW! What a way to see the fulfillment of prophecy right before our eyes! Lets always keep that in perspective.

So this week, I am asking you to join me in continuing to pray for Israel. With all the added turmoil in the Middle East, please keep your sisters and brothers abroad close at heart.

For God says in his Word…

“I will bless those who bless you [Israel], And I will curse him who curses you [Israel]…” Gen. 12:3

Be blessed and love you all!

  1. Well written Elissa. Too bad you are not a writer for a newspaper or have the capability of choosing what the media broadcasts. Wish more people could read this. 2. “[The Jewish people] are not eminent solely by their antiquity, but are also singular by their duration, which has always continued from their origin till now. For, whereas the nations of Greece and of Italy, of Lacedaemon, of Athens and of Rome, and others who came long after, have long since perished, these ever remain, and in spite of the endeavors of many powerful kings who have a hundred times tried to destroy them, as their historians testify, and as it is easy to conjecture from the natural order of things during so long a space of years, they have nevertheless been preserved (and this preservation has been foretold)…” -Blaise Pascal
